Andy Taylor — Guitarist

Guitarist · Composer · Educator · Bristol

Andy Taylor is a Bristol-based guitarist, composer and educator, and someone I’ve been making music with for more than twenty years.

Andy briefly joined Rocketgoldstar in the summer of 2003, playing Glastonbury and several other gigs with us. Our musical paths have continued to cross ever since.

He’s a founder member and guitarist of The Rumble-O’s, supplying much of the band’s characteristic surf-guitar twang. In 2014 we composed and performed a live soundtrack to Bruce Brown’s surfing documentary The Endless Summer at Green Man Festival.

We also play together in the psychedelic group Asteroid Deluxe, alongside Helen Stanley and James Phillips. Among our projects were live soundtracks to Alejandro Jodorowsky’s The Holy Mountain and René Laloux’s Fantastic Planet, performed at Green Man in 2015 and 2016 respectively. Our album The Lawn came out in 2017.

Beyond our bands

Andy’s musical life extends far beyond our collaborations. He’s played and recorded with Crippled Black Phoenix, Nicky Wire’s Secret Society and Adrian Utley’s Guitar Orchestra. He is also a longstanding member of Minima, the ensemble creating original live soundtracks to silent films.

His theatre work includes musical direction and guitar for the Royal Shakespeare Company’s 2023 production of As You Like It, followed by performances in A Midsummer Night’s Dream in Stratford-upon-Avon and London. He has worked extensively as a session musician and taught at BIMM Bristol since 2013.

Andy is a phenomenal and remarkably versatile musician, at home with surf rock, experimental music, film scores and theatre.
